THE MURDER-A-DOG RACE BETTER KNOWN AS: THE IDITAROD Once again it is drawing near to the day that Alaska plays host to the MURDER-A-DOG Race, and once again, we at the Canadian Voice For Animals, are asking everyone who love the poor unfortunate animals who are subjected to this horror, to write to the Governor of Alaska, and your Senators, asking them to, once and for all, put a stop to this disgusting exploitation of our fellow sentient beings. These dogs suffer unwarranted horrors during the race, and if one dares to become hurt or unable to continue, the poor creature is either beaten into submission or shot and left to die never knowing why...The Governor can be contacted at this address: frank_murkowski@gov.state.ak.us. Please make your messages short and to the point, as long letters will be sent to the wastebasket. If you have the time, write a letter and post it, as the written word packs a heavier impact. Is there a way that this bloody carnage can be stopped? Yes there is: Iditarod supporters claim that the race is patterned after the serum run, which is totally inaccurate; but, why not make this a true statement and change the Iditarod so that the race is run in relays and then no dog would run more than one hundred miles. That length is still a long run for a 45 to 50 pound dog, but the casualty count would be dropped to considerably. And further, observers should and could be stationed at one mile intervals to monitor the Mushers and to make sure any of the dogs that are unable to finish the, Murder-A-Dog-Race, are cared for and transported back to the starting point for veterinary care. These rescued dogs would be considered redundant and could now be put up for adoption and sent to a home where they would be honoured and loved like a member of the family. It is said that God sees grace in the struggle. These dogs have struggled long enough. Let us, all who read this, show these beautiful creatures some of that grace. If you ever go to Alaska, and you are far enough away from the lights of civilization, look up into the sky; all the stars you see are those of the souls of the dogs who never make it through a race. Once you've seen this spectacle, nights from then on will never be too long. |
